JAVIER MORENO
A double bassist and composer born in Madrid, he has lived in New York City for nearly a decade. Residing for extended periods in the vibrant metropolis, with intermittent stays in various locales such as Rome or Buenos Aires, he has engaged in a fervent and dedicated professional pursuit towards jazz in all its ways.
He pursued studies at esteemed institutions including New York University (NYU) where he earned a Master's in Jazz Performance and Composition, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands, where he completed a Bachelor's degree in Jazz.
His contributions have been recognized with awards, scholarships, and grants from renowned institutions such as Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada, Tete Montoliu (AIE) in Spain, Fundación Caja Madrid in Spain, ART-EXT (AECID) in Spain, the National Endowment for the Arts in the USA, MacDowell Colony in the USA, Exploring the Metropolis in the USA, and the Real Academia de España en Roma (AECID) in Italy, among others.
Throughout his professional journey, he has been an integral part of diverse scenes within contemporary jazz, Avant garde jazz, flamenco, and other musical genres in various cities. As a versatile sideman, he has collaborated with an eclectic array of artists including Gerald Cleaver, Tim Berne, Ernesto Jodos, Dino Saluzzi, Tony Malaby, Craig Taborn, Badal Roy, Carmen Linares, Camila Meza, Agustín Carbonell "El Bola", Javier Ruibal, Rycardo Moreno, Ashley Campbell, or David Dorantes
His performances have graced the most prestigious clubs and venues internationally, with notable appearances at venues such as Fendika Cultural Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Filarmónica Romana in Rome, Italy; Sunset Sunside in Paris, France; Palacio de Carlos V in Granada, Spain; The Piano Man in New Delhi, India; Centro León in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic; Thelonious Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Casa de la Música in Porto, Portugal; La Sebastiana in Valparaíso, Chile; Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City, Mexico; Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Spain; Café Central in Madrid, Spain; Jamboree in Barcelona, Spain, and the most prestigious jazz clubs in New York City including The Stone, Smalls, Iridium, and the Cornelia Street Café.
Additionally, he has participated in renowned international jazz festivals such as the San Sebastián Jazz Festival in Spain, Vitoria Jazz Festival in Spain, Spoleto Jazz Festival in the USA, Eurojazz in Mexico City, Mexico, Madrid Jazz Festival, Jazz Sur Son de Toulouse in France, Buenos Aires Jazz Festival in Argentina, Porto Jazz Festival in Portugal, Róbalo Jazz in Lisbon, Portugal, Rhino Jazz in France, Imago Jazz Festival in Slovenia, New York Flamenco Festival, International Jazz Festival of Nicaragua, and the International Jazz Festival of Guatemala City.
With six albums to his credit as a leader (four of them released under the Catalan jazz label Fresh Sound New Talent) and four albums as a co-leader, he has forged significant collaborations with labels such as Porta Jazz in Porto, Portugal, ears&eyes Records in the USA, and Blue Art Records in Argentina.
As an educator, he is honored to be part of the faculty at the Centro de Música Creativa in Madrid, where he teaches jazz double bass, composition, and avant-garde jazz ensemble.
